Associate General Counsel

Description:

The Associate General Counsel will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal support to the applicable business unit(s) or world area(s) with a broad knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations in assigned legal areas. They may be responsible for the management and supervision of other Lawyer and Non‑Lawyer Professionals in the Emerson Law Department. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Senior Associate General Counsel, Americas. This position can be based at any Emerson US corporate office and offers a 4‑1 hybrid schedule (4 days in the office / 1 day working from home).

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
  • Provides senior level advice to the relevant business unit(s) on a broad spectrum of legal issues while exercising independent judgment, including:
    • Acting as liaison between business management and other practice groups within the Emerson Legal Function as well as outside counsel
    • Reviewing, advising on and negotiating various commercial agreements
    • Performing or overseeing audits, self‑assessments, and investigations
  • Works cooperatively with Emerson Law Department colleagues, Emerson business personnel and outside counsel to ensure compliance with Emerson policies and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • May mentor, manage, and train other members of the Emerson Law Department.
  • May directly manage and otherwise lead a regional team of legal professionals, supporting their individual development, project management and program execution.
  • Keeps business unit(s) management and Law Department management fully advised of all significant developments concerning all material matters in a timely fashion.
  • Exercises good professional judgment, acts with integrity, and always drives results to protect and enhance the image and reputation of Emerson and the Law Department.
  • Supports the World Area General Counsel and Legal team in:
    • Handling legal matters related to commercial disputes or potential claims during or after contract performance
    • Providing guidance on general legal matters such as antitrust, anticompetition, collections & bankruptcy, indirect procurement, quality or safety issues, non‑sales/supply contract negotiation, real estate, construction contracts, marketing, etc.
    • Creating and providing training for business stakeholders on legal topics
    • Implementing corporate policies throughout all applicable divisions
    • Strategic projects in different areas (e.g., implementation of various legislation, applicable new directives and regulations)
  • Manages the post‑acquisition legal integration process of newly acquired companies regarding all applicable legal areas.
  • Leads various strategic initiatives of the Legal team, and with other tasks as assigned.

For This Role, You Will Need:
  • Law Degree from an accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one State within the US
  • Relevant years of experience in a commercial and international field (in‑house or private practice)
  • Comfortable working with senior management
  • Intermediate MS Office skills
  • Excellent oral and written English language skills; Spanish language skills are an advantage
  • Openness to travel
  • Solution‑finding, practical, with a strong business acumen, able to weigh and take reasonable risks
  • Self‑motivated and keen on getting involved in all kinds of legal matters and business areas
  • Willingness to travel
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience in a commercial and international field (in‑house or private practice)

Our compensation philosophy is simple: we pay a competitive base salary, within the local market in which we operate, and reward performance during our annual merit review process. The starting salary for this role is $132,600 - $189,400 annually, commensurate with the skills, talent, capabilities and experience each candidate brings to the role.
