Job Details The City is seeking an experienced and motivated Park Maintenance Crew Leader with Athletic Fields Maintenance to take the lead in keeping our sports fields safe, attractive, and game-ready. This hands-on leadership role is perfect for someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating specialized and heavy equipment, and guiding a team in the daily maintenance and preparation of athletic fields. The Crew Leader oversees mowing, trimming, aerating, field setup, concrete work, equipment inspections, and general grounds maintenance while ensuring work is performed safely and efficiently. From painting lines and setting goals to repairing fences and bleachers, this position plays a critical role in delivering high-quality recreational spaces for the community. Summary of Duties : Under general supervision, the Park Maintenance Crew Leader is responsible for leading the work activities of maintenance personnel on parks, public grounds, and athletic areas.

- Operates specialized and heavy equipment required in the upkeep and operation of the areas of responsibility.
- Inspects and maintains assigned equipment.
- Performs various construction, routine maintenance, and labor tasks.
- Mows, trim, edge, and aerate grass; trim and prune trees, hedges, and bushes; removes brush and debris; mulches flower beds and tree islands.
- Sets concrete forms; pours, levels, and finishes concrete.
- May paint lines and set up sporting equipment to include goal posts, nets, and screens depending on area of assignment.
- Ensures conditions are safe in the area where work is performed; selects most appropriate working routine.
- Leads the work activities of assigned maintenance personnel in various grounds maintenance and other work tasks.
- Prepares sports fields.
- Maintains daily work orders.
- May set up sporting equipment on fields to include goals and chalk lines; repairs fences, player benches, and bleacher seats as needed.
- Cleans and maintains equipment and tools.
- Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
Marginal Duties : - Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Decisions : The incumbent must regularly assess the condition of properties, sports fields, and plant materials and provides appropriate remedies, or maintenance. Leads and supervises the work activities of others. When assigned to Golf, may coordinate the appropriate opening times for the golf course with the pro shop staff.
Minimum Qualifications : Knowledge of: Operation and maintenance of specialized equipment used in the activities the incumbent leads; turf maintenance; commonly used plant materials and their care or sports field establishment, preparation, and on-going maintenance of athletic fields.
Skill in: Communicating clearly both verbally and in writing; operating various tools and equipment as needed; leading the work of others.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in landscaping, construction, golf course maintenance or similar trade, and six (6) months of experience supervising others.
Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above minimum qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
Licenses and Certifications: Texas Class "A" Commercial driver's license (prior to employment).
Conditions of Employment : Must pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions : Must possess mobility to work in and around City buildings, parks, and facilities; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform light to medium physical work and around machines, and to operate varied hand and power tools and specialized equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, and reach when completing maintenance, repairs, and various daily tasks. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 75 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.
Employees work in and around buildings and facilities and are exposed to constant noise, heights, cold and hot temperatures, temperature swings, dust, mechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards, and hazardous odors and fumes.
