Summary

This requisition expires on April 1, 2026, but may close earlier if the position is filled prior to the expiration date.

Responsible for performing a range of administrative duties necessary to support Police Criminal Investigations and Operations Bureau.
Essential Functions and Other Important Duties

Essential Functions:

  • Answers telephone calls, greets visitors and distributes incoming correspondence
  • Prepares and files reports completed by Detectives to the DA Office (E-File)
  • Evaluates inquiries and requests from the public to determine the appropriate response provides accurate information or makes the proper referral
  • Distributes court notices for all sworn and non-sworn personnel
  • Performs research to find best value and purchases supplies as needed for Criminal Investigations Bureau and business cards for the entire department
  • Prepares Travel Advances and Expense Reports for Criminal Investigations Bureau
  • Communicates with citizens on the status of their case (inactivated cases)
  • Maintain weekly suspect list for Detectives in CIB
  • Maintains Field Interview information on RMS
  • Assists in assigning CPS reports into RMS
  • Maintains and sends out monthly validation letters/list for stolen guns & vehicles
  • Produces documents such as letters, lists, and reports as requested by Bureau
  • Scans all reports and follow-ups into LaserFiche for the Detectives
  • Prepares work orders as needed
  • Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance
Additional Duties:
  • Assists in registering Sex Offenders
  • Notarizes warrants and any other document that may need to be notarized in the department
  • Facilitates the recognition events for Promotions, Retirements, and other events as needed
  • Assists in scanning documents for Records
  • Oversees pawn tickets entered into Leads On Line
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent, with appropriate courses in typing, business English, and general office practice
  • Two years' experience as a secretary or three year's general clerical or public contact experience
OR
  • Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

  • Ability to learn and apply new skills effectively

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and Internet Explorer as well as PowerPoint.
Preferences:
  • NCIC and TCIC Certified
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
Conditions of Employment:
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
  • Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, employment history verification, and social security number verification.
  • Must be able to work overtime when requested
  • Must meet the civilian hiring standards of the City of Denton police department due to access to secured areas and/or information
