City Of Frisco Custodial Position

Under general supervision, performs general, routine cleaning, sanitizing, and minor maintenance of assigned City facilities.

The intent of this position description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this position. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties in this description and incumbent(s) may be required to perform position-related tasks other than those specifically listed in this description.

Essential Job Functions & Other Important Duties:

  • Investigates reported violations, takes photographs, and inspects business or residential properties for sign violations.
  • Vacuums, sweeps, and mops offices, conference rooms, restrooms, break rooms, kitchens, hallways and common areas.
  • Dusts and polishes windowsills, desks, and laminated surfaces in offices, kitchens, dressing rooms, meeting rooms and conference and break rooms, among others.
  • Picks up trash and debris inside buildings and in areas around buildings and cleans and maintains areas outside the building, such as building entries and exists, parking areas, garages, sidewalks, dumpsters/dumpster enclosures and steps.
  • Empties trash containers and recycling bins, sanitizes counters and other surface areas and restocks bathrooms and kitchen areas with paper and soap products.
  • Notifies supervisor of supply and equipment needs.
  • Notifies supervisor of safety and maintenance concerns.
  • Sets up and breaks down equipment, tables, chairs or other needs for special events or meetings.
  • Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.
  • Participates in cross-training of custodians.

Job Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of custodial practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of customer service techniques.
  • Knowledge of safe handling techniques for cleaning supplies and chemicals.
  • Skill in independently completing work assignments.
  • Skill in resolving customer complaints and concerns.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, with customers, management and elected and appointed officials.
  • Ability to work under basic or limited supervision.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends if required.
  • Ability to work with assigned software to review assigned work orders and documents and close out assigned work orders.

Education, Experience, and Certifications/Licenses:

  • Must have completed five (5) years as a custodian.
  • Must possess valid State of Texas Driver's License.

  • Work is performed in buildings, areas outside buildings and facilities and in parking lots and garages.
  • May be subject to exposure to hazardous chemicals, body fluids, air and water borne pathogens.

  • Balancing maintain equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching.

  • Talking 2 shouting to be heard above ambient noise.
  • Hearing 1 perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, receive information.
  • Visual Acuity 1 - prepare, analyze data, transcribing, computer terminal, extensive reading.
  • Hearing 2 receive detailed information, make discrimination in sound.
  • Visual Acuity 2 - color, depth perception, field of vision.
  • Kneeling bending legs at knee to come to rest at knees.
  • Visual Acuity 3 - determine accuracy, neatness, observe facilities/structures.
  • Lifting raising objects from lower to higher position, moving objects side to side, using upper extremities, back.
  • Visual Acuity 4 - operate motor vehicles/heavy equipment.
  • Mental Acuity ability to make rational decisions through sound logic, deductive reasoning.
  • Visual Acuity 5 -close acuity for inspection of small defects, machines, use measurement devices, or fabricate parts.
  • Pulling - use upper extremities to exert force, haul or tug.
  • Walking - on foot to accomplish tasks, long distances, or site to site.

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Equipment and Tools Utilized: Equipment utilized includes cleaning chemicals, brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners and other cleaning supplies.
