Description:

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Volunteer Associate leads and motivates volunteers in the sorting of food product and assembly of various food boxes, including managing quality control of the production process to support our partner agencies and NTFB programs as part of the volunteer experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certifications:

• High school diploma or GED required

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Must be confident with verbal presentations skills to provide instructions to volunteer groups on a daily basis

• Strong interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy and flexibility to work effectively with internal and external customers

• Strong organizational, counting, and problem-solving skills

• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively and be detail-oriented

• Experience operating a motorized pallet jack and reach truck is preferred

Experience:

• Customer service or relevant work experience preferred

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead and engage volunteers to provide instructions for proper sorting or box kitting of product, both in a team setting and independently

• Perform inventory during all transactions and product activity by following assigned procedures

• Engage in verifying, packing, order building, labeling of component items and finished product

• Operate various warehouse equipment including but not limited to reach truck, motorized pallet jack, manual jack, etc.

• Pick pallets needed for daily builds; Setting of daily production lines; restocking product as needed on lines; wrapping pallets; and tagging and putting away of pallets

• Sort and place materials or items on racks or shelves according to date received

• Maintain inventory accuracy in all transactions and product activity by following assigned procedures; assist in counting of physical inventory

• Adhere to guidelines for working on a warehouse floor per food safety standards to proactively address safety hazards in accordance with policies and procedures

• Work as a team to keep warehouse floor organized and clean, and ensure accessibility and safety for all stakeholders

• Maintain accountability and conduct routine maintenance for all assigned NTFB property and equipment

Key Metrics

• Ensure all completed goods are weighed after the day's volunteer activities

• Ensure correct tags with correct lot information are on all pallets

MENTAL DEMANDS:

• The person in this position needs to be able to read; communicate verbally and/or in written form; remember and analyze certain information; and remember and understand certain instructions or guidelines.

• The person in this position needs to adapt well in the face of workplace stressors such as customer complaints and maintaining the safety of people and property.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; talk or hear.

• Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds

• Must be able to successfully operate all gas and electric-powered forklift trucks, as well as manual pallet jacks after completed equipment training

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

• Moderate to loud noise (e.g., music and medium to heavy traffic in the warehouse with forklifts and pallet jacks).

• This person should have the ability to work in varying internal (hot and cold) temperature levels in the warehouse

• Tuesday - Saturday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM (schedule may change dependent on company/department changes)

• Able to participate in events outside the traditional workday schedule on occasional evenings and weekends
