Collections Clerk

Collin County is seeking candidates for the position of Collections Clerk. A Collections Clerk is responsible for initiating the collection of criminal court fines, fees and court costs imposed by all courts administered in Collin County.

Responsibilities include the following: conducting in person interviews with defendants to complete payment plan applications; reviewing payment plan applications to determine the defendant's financial ability to pay and payment schedule; using tools such as Texas Workforce Commission online records, Texas Department of Transportation, Accurint, and property records to verify information; performing collections work on delinquent dockets, including skip tracing through use of various tools; documenting in detail all collection efforts and contacts in creating a case history to prevent reproduction of unsuccessful efforts and to provide a basis for assessing the feasibility of future efforts; and tracking and monitoring payment of fines, fees and court costs. Public contact responsibilities include dealing with adverse and confrontational situations on the phone and in person.

An employee in this position is expected to handle difficult public contact situations that require diplomacy, tact and negotiation skills. The incumbent is expected to pay thorough attention to detail in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of each defendant's personal financial information, become familiar with court documents, formulate payment schedules and monitor compliance of payment plans. A major consideration in the employee performance review will be based on their collection rate. Work is performed under the direction of the Program Coordinator.

Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and broad knowledge in court proceedings and processes, collections techniques, and customer service. Experience in collections/ accounts receivables, working with automated collections systems, computers, and dealing with customers in person is highly desirable. Bilingual (English/Spanish) speaking skills are highly desirable. Must be able to pass a typing test at a rate of 35 WPM or better and possess a valid Texas Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

Testing Requirements

This position requires that you pass a typing test at the minimum rate specified above.

  • If you have taken a typing test with us within the last 6 months that meets or exceeds the requirements above, you do not need to take it again.
  • If you have never taken our typing test, have not met the requirements above, or it has been more than 6 months since your last test, you will need to take the test in order for your application to be complete.

Typing tests are administered in the Human Resources Testing room from 8:30am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. You do not need an appointment to test, but you will need to bring a government issued photo ID. If you have any questions regarding the testing, please feel free to call 972-###-####.
