Summary

Responsible for assisting the instructors with teaching swimming and diving lessons while promoting pool and water safety.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

DUTIES
* Assist with teaching swimming and diving lessons.
* Ensure safety of class participants; explain, clarify, and enforce pool rules, as appropriate.
* Assist in preparation of class lesson plans.
* Ensure swim equipment is in good condition and safe to use; notify leadership immediately if equipment is not in safe operating condition.
* Maintain simple recordkeeping including, but not limited to, attendance and participant records.
* Administer rescue and/or first aid to guests, as needed.
SUPERVISORY/BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
* Ability to pass a water skills test.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
* Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, and social security number verification.
* Must pass a physical examination.
* Must be at least fifteen (15) years of age.
* Must have or obtain Red Cross or American Heart Association Adult CPR, AED & First Aid Certification designated timeframe outlined for program (online training is not valid).
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements
SAFETY
* Ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
* Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
* Promptly report unsafe conditions in the work area and/or any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
* Safety Sensitive (Subject to random drug testing): Yes.
* Tools/Equipment Used: Standard pool equipment including kickboards, noodles, and other aquatic teaching aids.
* Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; frequent reaching, stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
* Motion: Frequent repetitive hand and leg motions.
* Lifting: Lifting no more than 100 pounds; carrying up to 50 pounds.
* Environment: Works prolonged time in chlorinated water, inside and/or outside in 90-105 degree heat; exposure to inclement weather, noise, debris, odor, and chemicals; may incur emersions of up to two (2) hours in pool water; typical water temperature of 78-90 degrees; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
* Travel: Travels to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.
* Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
* Must be able to work overtime or outside of normal business hours, as required.
* Must be available for position trainings during the designated timeframe outlined for program.
* Must be able to obtain Adult and Pediatric CPR, AED and First Aid certification by the designated timeframe outlined for program.
* Must be able to work the designated summer seasonal program schedule, dates will adjust annually, Monday - Saturday with shift times varying between 7:00 am and 9:00 pm.
* Must work the Citywide special event, date will adjust annually.
* Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
