Description

POSITION FUNCTION SUMMARY: Must have experience in the operation of light equipment associated with Public Works operations. Incumbent will also assist in maintenance, repair and construction of streets, parks, water, wastewater and storm drainage. Routinely operating small tools, light motorized equipment associated with these operations during the hours of 7:00 am to 3:00 pm., Monday through Friday, working in all weather conditions or working overtime as needed in all hours of the day or night.

• Arrive to work every day on time as scheduled.
• Perform job related tasks as dictated by work orders or supervisors.
• Train in the water /wastewater technology.
• Assist other departments as directed by supervisor.
• Read and understand written job instructions and plans.
• Complete work orders and other necessary paperwork on the completion of assigned tasks or maintenance of equipment.
• Hear clearly and interpret hand signals when operating equipment.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE:

• Theory, principles, practices and techniques of Public Works and Public Utilities maintenance
• Applicable federal, state and local law, applicable to Public Works and Public Utilities functions
• Analyze maintenance issues; evaluate alternative solutions to develop sound conclusions for a course of action or recommendation
• Understand and apply local, state and federal law for public works and utilities services
• Train in water and wastewater technology
• Read and understand written job instructions and plans
• Complete work orders and other necessary paperwork on the completion of assigned tasks or maintenance of equipment
• Assist other departments as directed by supervisor

SKILLS:

• Uses time effectively to accomplish tasks.
• Exercises sound, independent judgment within general policy guidelines.
• Operation of light equipment
• Must be able to operate a city vehicle safely, as well as operate and maintain a variety of small construction equipment, including but not limited to: backhoe, loader, and dump truck
• Complete work orders using correct English (i.e., grammar, punctuation, spelling and clarity)

The City reserves the right to allow substitutions in the event that a candidate or incumbent exceeds requirements in one area but may be deficient in another.

FORMAL EDUCATION:

• High school diploma or equivalent GED.

TRAINING (LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATION):

• Valid Texas Driver's License and safe driving record.
• Must be able to obtain a valid Texas CDL "A" Driver's License within 6 months.
• Valid TCEQ "D" Water License within 12 months
