Job Title: Classical Mathematics Instructional Specialist

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt: $60,000 - $75,000

Reports to: Superintendent

Dept./School: Founders - Home Office

Position Summary:

The Classical Mathematics Instructional Specialist will be responsible for the development and

implementation of coherent mathematics instructional programs from K - 12 grade that are

aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), the Texas English Language

Proficiency Standards (ELPS), and post-secondary college and career readiness standards. They will support the implementation of Founder's mathematics curricula, instructional strategies, and assessments. They will collaborate with the Executive Director of Classical Learning to develop and deliver effective mathematics-focused professional learning and

model classical pedagogy and best practices. They will assist teachers and administrators in developing the skills, tools,

and techniques so students at Founders Classical Academy can learn and engage with mathematics content at or above grade-level.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification

? Bachelor's degree in Mathematics (required)

? Valid teaching certification 6-12 Math (required)

? Master's Degree (preferred) in Mathematics or related field

? ESL and/or Gifted certification (preferred)

Experience

? 3-5+ years teaching experience

? 3-5+ years related skills experience

? 3+ years leading professional development

? 3+ years instructional coach experience or related field

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

? Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of research-based best practices in the teaching of

mathematics grades 6-12.

? Demonstrate a high level of knowledge of best practices in various mathematics curriculum.

? Knowledge of effective strategies related to cognitive academic language acquisition among

ESL and bilingual students.

? In-depth knowledge of 6-12 math TEKS.

? Exemplary oral and written communication skills.

6-12 Mathematics

Instructional Specialist

? Ability to work interactively with teachers, administrators, and district-level staff.

? Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policy/procedure manuals.

? Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of

administrators, teachers, and department leaders.

? Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

? Ability to collaborate with the instructional team to foster continuous improvement of 6-12

mathematics.

? Strong familiarity with research-based mathematics pedagogy.

? Familiarity with web-based curriculum delivery programs.

? Ability to travel to school sites with overnight stay when warranted.

Primary Duties:

? Conceptualize, develop, and direct a 6-12th grade comprehensive vision for mathematics

including both short-range and long-range plans for implementation.

? Collaborate with other Mathematics Instructional Specialists to ensure vertical alignment of

mathematics instruction.

? Provide leadership and supervision for campus content specialists in design, development,

and implementation of mathematics interventions, instructional strategies, local

assessments, and professional learning around a balanced philosophy that includes the

direct teaching of calculation, processing, vocabulary, problem-solving, and critical

thinking skills in mathematics.

? Research, analyze, and make recommendations for the enhancement, redirection, and/or

expansion of current mathematics programs and services.

? Model instructional strategies and instructional coaching plans to the TEKS and ELPS.

? Analyze student performance data and develop plans to meet identified student needs.

? Develop and lead the delivery of professional learning for teachers, specialists, and

administrators.

? Monitor the quality and implementation of mathematics program activities and make

recommendations for adjustments as needed.

? Collaborate with the Departments of Special Education, ESL/Bilingual Services, Advanced

Academics, and Career and Technical Education to ensure alignment and high quality

instruction, materials, and professional learning for all teachers of these populations of

students.

? Monitor the quality and implementation of the math program activities and make

recommendations for adjustments as needed.

? Develop and maintain strong and positive working relationships with colleagues across all campuses.

? Regular use of complex machines and equipment (desktop/laptop computer and software,

road and production machines and equipment, etc.)

? Intermediate: Alphanumeric Data Entry, Database, Presentation/PowerPoint, Spreadsheet,

Word Processing/Typing

? Google suite of applications

? Video conferencing technology

Physical / Environmental Factors:

? Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently,

and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

? Indoors, in controlled environment, exposed to weather elements when transporting to and

from building and car, and exposed to dust from books.
