Main job is to make sure all HVAC and mechanical systems are installed, tested, integrated, and proven to work reliably before the facility goes live.
Responsibilities
Types of Mechanical Equipment in Data Centers:
Chillers, cooling towers, or modular chiller plants
CRAH/CRAC units (Computer Room Air Handlers/Conditioners)
In-row coolers or rear-door heat exchangers
Chilled water distribution systems (pumps, piping, valves)
Condenser water systems
Air distribution systems, ductwork, dampers, and VFDs
Economizers / free cooling systems
Fuel systems for generators (if tied into HVAC systems, e.g. fuel oil heating)
BMS integration for monitoring and controls
Their job is to make sure the data center can keep its servers cool 24/7, under any operating or failure condition.
They prove that cooling redundancy works, air and water systems are properly balanced, and all mechanical systems integrate seamlessly before the facility goes live.
Qualifications
5-10+ years' experience.
Must have experience with Greenfield Data Centers.
Deep understanding of power distribution in mission-critical facilities.
Familiarity with NFPA 70 (NEC), IEEE standards, NETA ATS/MTS, and Uptime Institute / Tier guidelines.
Strong coordination and leadership skills. He / she will eventually lead up to 6 people. These people will be Commissioning engineers and QA / QC.
Ability to manage risk and troubleshoot during testing.
Experience with large-scale commissioning schedules and reporting.
As this will be a duplication of the North Campus, commissioning plans will not need to be designed, but some experience doing so is expected.
