JOB SUMMARY Telemetry Technician: NTMC will provide 3-6 weeks on the job training for this position. Experienced technician is preferred. A Telemetry Technician monitors cardiac rhythms via telemetry monitors. Prepares and compiles telemetry records for the multi-disciplinary team. Effectively communicates with nursing staff to provide safe patient care. SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Reflects knowledge and good judgment in decisions and actions within the role of Telemetry TechnicianKnowledge of anatomy and physiology of the heart in relation to waves, complexes, time and voltage shown through the conduction system and strip interpretationDemonstrates competency in interpreting dysrhythmiasMaintains awareness of patient location and condition of patient's telemetric patternsRuns and posts rhythm strips at the specified times each shift, alerting charge nurses or primary care nurse to any abnormal rhythms or changes in vital signs Interacts with co-workers, other hospital, staff and the general public in a professional and respectful mannerAnswers the telephone in a timely and polite mannerMaintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departmentsParticipates in conferences involving the care of patients as neededManage and operate equipment safely and correctlyPerforms other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor/ManagerBASIC SKILLS Basic computer skills and knowledgeAbility to be flexible, organized and function effectively in stressful situationsAbility to communicate professionally and clearly to co-workers, charge nurse and physiciansEDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED High School diploma or the equivalent (GED)Monitor technician certificate awarded by the hospital (upon successful completion of hospital-provided dysrhythmia course) or outside exam certification approved by Supervisor within 6 weeks of hire.LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writingAdditional languages are a plusPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to lift and move equipment up to 25 lbs.Required to sit for long periods.Ability to push, pull, lift, bend, kneel, twist, and reach above shoulder level.Vision and hearing skills must be corrected to near normal range.
