Support and Services is part of a dynamic team within Facilities that plays a vital role in supporting the university's operations and overall student success. We are responsible for the accurate and timely billing of campus utilities, including water, electricity, gas, and other essential services. In addition to Utilities Billing, our team includes Purchasing and Work Control. These interconnected areas collaborate to streamline internal processes, coordinate service requests, manage procurement, provide responsive support to our campus partners, and ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
We work closely with departments across campus to promote billing transparency, cost efficiency, and reliable service delivery. Position Overview
The Facilities Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Utility Billing Specialist to join our Facilities Support and Services team.
Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
•Process all incoming bills monthly from purchased utility providers, logging into Energy Cap, scanning, and filing etc.
•Provide energy billing reports to customers as requested for all utility commodities, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and thoroughness.
•Managing the billing process within Energy Cap, process billing files through the Facilities Budget office, ensuring timely processing and accuracy.
•Provide thorough, timely, and positive customer service daily, acting as the main Facilities contact for Utilities billing,
•Explaining policies, researching inquiries, gathering data, and any miscellaneous requests that come in including solid waste receptacle coordination with utility provider, meter reading, troubleshooting billing software issues working with provider to address and resolve issues.
•Resolution of utility account issues with utility companies.
•Other additional responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting Work Control by answering the phone, receiving and processing incoming service requests, creating and closing work orders.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma/GED equivalent and four years of experience in related maintenance/repair field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•Prior experience with specific systems, equipment, and software may be specified as needed by the department.
•Reasoning and mathematical skills.
•Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
•Excellent written and oral communication skills, including explaining data in understandable ways to customers.
•Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
Preferred Qualifications
•The ideal candidate possesses the ability to quickly learn new systems and processes, be a self-starter, detail-oriented, accountable, analytical, efficient, accurate, and multi-task.
•Prior experience with Utilities billing software (Energy Cap) and PeopleSoft.
•Ability to work independently with limited supervision, strong customer service, with the ability to interface with all levels within the organization.
•Must be a reliable team player able to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers.
•Problem-solving skills and ability to identify a pattern in a problem, conduct research, coordinate with the appropriate back-end teams to solve operational problems, and deliver solutions to customer inquiries.
•Understand new tools and data.
•Proficiency in relevant software tools, including Microsoft Office products, with a strong focus on Excel.
•Time management and organizational skills; complete tasks on time and meet deadlines.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Possession of a valid Texas driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment; ability to drive a vehicle and maintain coverage under university liability insurance policy, if required to drive University vehicles.
