Job Details

The Lab Phlebotomist performs positive patient identification and the collection of various laboratory specimens in an outpatient setting. Receives and inputs specimen information into laboratory information system and conducts patient/client registration as necessary. Makes determinations for specimen collection containers and volumes based on patient weight and performing laboratory. Maintains specimen integrity during specimen collection, specimen transport, and processing of samples received in the laboratory. Communicates orders and/or specimen issues directly to caregiver. Provides customer service by greeting visitors, answering the telephone, transferring phone calls, faxing results, and assisting with specimen requirements. Performs other clerical or clinical duties as required by area of service. Patients served at Cook Childrens range in age from newborn through the adolescent period.
