To perform administrative work managing the fueling and maintenance operation of the Gainesville Municipal Airport. Must be able to plan and initiate long-range goals and promote airport development. Considerable independent judgment and initiative are required with experience in the operation and maintenance of a municipal airport. Required to maintain flexible work schedule including weekends.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions:

  • Develop, plan, and implement department goals and objectives; recommend and administer policies and procedures.
  • Oversee, operate and maintain a fuel farm to include limited full service with prompt response time to customers and self serve option after hours for fueling of aircraft with AVGAS and Jet-A fuel.
  • Direct, oversee and participate in the development of the Department's work plan; assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor workflow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures.
  • Supervise and participate in the development and administration of the department budget; direct the forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement mid-year adjustments.
  • Participate with the Airport Board to plan and promote improvements and expanded services; attend and participate in professional groups and committees to increase airport usage and fuel sales.
  • Manage and maintain hangars and pavement.
  • Marketing and solicitation to promote airport including tours and other public relation operations.
  • Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints in regard to the airport.
  • Monitor the quality of services provided to ensure that all service is efficient, effective and courteous.
  • Oversee and maintain grounds around terminal building and ramp area.
  • Requisition supplies as needed.

Additional Duties:

  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain Internet web page for airport.

Typical Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

  • Organizational and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of programs, policies and operational needs.
  • Fueling aircraft with AVGAS or JET-A fuel.
  • Principles of Airport program development and administration.
  • Principles and practices of organization, administration and personnel management.
  • Principles and practices of budget preparation and administration.
  • Principles and practices of general maintenance and repairs.
  • Operating and maintaining a fuel farm.
  • Basic accounting.
  • Public relations and marketing skills.

Ability to:

  • Evaluate terminal, hangars and fuel needs
  • Prepare and administer a budget.
  • Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.
  • Effectively administer a variety of Departmental activities.
  • Identify and respond to public and City Council issues and concerns.
  • Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations.

Experience and Training Guidelines:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

Two years of increasingly responsible experience in airport management or related field including airport maintenance and operating experience along with FAA regulations relating to civil airport operations.

Education/Training:

Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree with major course work in airport operations or a college graduate with an internship or military training in airport management.
