The City of Plano is seeking enthusiastic and service-oriented individuals to join our team as part-time Banquet Servers. In this role, you will play a key part in providing exceptional customer service to guests at catered functions and large gatherings. Responsibilities include:

  • Greeting guests warmly and ensuring a positive event experience.
  • Setting up tables, serving food and beverages, and maintaining a clean and organized banquet space.
  • Delivering food and drinks promptly, clearing plates efficiently, and addressing special guest requests with professionalism.

The target hiring rate is $14.50 - $15.90 per hour, depending on qualifications. Schedule is based on events. Weekend and nights required.

Examples of ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Reviews customer food service needs on day of scheduled meeting and set food tables accordingly. The needs that must be taken into account are: number of attendees, number of food services tables required, food and beverage needs and compatibility of table dcor with the type of food being serviced.
  • Acts as the point of contact with customers for last-minute food and beverage changes during meetings.
  • Assists in food preparation, as needed.
  • Maintains record of actual food and beverage served and provide such information to Banquet supervisor.
  • Performs every food function to ensure the customer's expectations are achieved; reports results to the Food Services Coordinator.

  • Notes trends in customer preferences for food and drinks and advise the Banquet supervisor
  • Leads contract food service attendants during large meetings.
  • Maintains inventory of all dishes, glasses, flatware, props, and table skirts at end of every quarter; prepares report for Banquet supervisor.
  • Receives and signs for all dry storage items delivered to Food Sales and Services by outside vendors; checks items against invoices.
  • Cross-trains on a variety of activities, e.g., cashier at concession stands, bartending.
  • Assists in taking and end-of-month inventories of food and beverage stock.
  • Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
Marginal Duties :
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Decisions : The incumbent must determine and set priorities in order to meet multiple needs of customers. The incumbent must determine when best to prepare and service foods in order to ensure that customer needs are met.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of: Professional table side service and buffet setting; cash register operations and procedures.

Skill in: Folding napkins; setting a formal dining table; utilizing props in a creative manner; providing dining and table side customer service.

Education: No formal education required.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in large scale food service. Must be minimum of 18 years of age.

Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

Licenses and Certifications: State of Texas Driver's license (must obtain within 30 days of hire per state law); food handlers and Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission (TABC) certification must be obtained within thirty (30) days of entry into position.

Conditions of Employment: Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions : This classification requires standing in work areas and walking between work areas. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate basic kitchen equipment including kitchen knives ; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone . Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers, banquet, and kitchen equipment. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds .

Employees work both indoors and outdoors with direct exposure to moderate noise levels, and hazardous physical substances and kitchen equipment. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives.
