Job Summary:


The ideal teachers will help develop and guide the academic and social-emotional growth of children. These positions, two total, will be in our elementary division, grades 1 and 3. Our lower school extends from grades K-4.


Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing the lesson plans for your assigned class, working with peers, the department head and head of school to ensure alignment with school goals and pedagogy.
  • Working occasionally with other LS teachers, running several joint activities and partnering where beneficial to students.
  • Applying your knowledge of academic, social and emotional growth to the development and delivery of effective classroom lessons.
  • Bringing your experience with emergent curriculum and experiential education to every school day.
  • Working with a team to develop an aligned curriculum through lower school, one that feeds seamlessly into middle and upper school.
  • Intentionally curating age-appropriate, skill-based activities that potentiate a variety of learning opportunities specific to the topic of the day/week.
  • Attending all scheduled meetings and events, including but not limited to department meetings, faculty meetings, all-school and family or community events and others as determined by the head of school and your department head. Helping chaperone selected off-campus trips.
  • Communicating regularly and effectively with parents, peers and leadership on school and student issues, progress, challenges, successes.
  • Evaluating student performance, social development, behavior, health and intellectual growth, reporting on these periodically and as scheduled by your department head through school-defined systems and processes.
  • Providing individualized focus and tutoring when needed to help students achieve goals.
  • Planning and conducting parent-teacher conferences during designated periods and as otherwise needed.
  • Establishing clear objectives for students and providing the tools and lessons to attain them.
  • Having knowledge of student and faculty handbooks and other school policies and enforcing within school guidelines.
  • Having a clear understanding of our school mission and values, and using these as the foundation for all planning, education and activity.
  • Other responsibilities and activities as directed by the Head of School and LS Department Head.


General Education and Experience:

The ideal candidates will:

  • Hold a bachelor's degree or the equivalent in elementary education or a discipline relevant to elementary education (e.g. language arts, math, science) from an accredited four-year college or university. Advanced degree(s) are a plus.
  • Have at least 3 years of lower school (K-5) classroom experience, ideally in an independent school but this is not required. For the right candidate we are open to hiring recent graduates with suitable education credentials.
  • Be capable of designing lessons for lower school students and teaching these lessons, both independently and as part of integrated school projects (e.g. lesson that integrates science, math, technology).
  • Tailor an innovative, engaging educational approach to the particular needs of a class or student, delivering an education that effectively motivates every student to their potential and reflects our school's mission and pedagogy.
  • On and off campus, represent our school in a way that positively builds our brand image and motivates people to learn more about the school.
  • Help develop and execute school events and programs as needed. Chaperone day and overnight field trips as scheduled.
  • Comply with all applicable local, state and federal rules and regulations regarding teaching school children.
  • Welcome constructive performance reviews, working to implement ideas for improvement on an ongoing basis.
  • Have unimpeachable ethics, honesty, respect for all and a deep desire to work on behalf of students and the people who serve them.
  • Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as required by school leadership.


Other Qualifications:

  • All prospective employees must agree to submit to a background check and other employee screening as required. A USA-valid and current driver's license and record in good standing is required.


Compensation:

  • Salary will be discussed with eligible candidates.
