Description/Notes: Leads the development and execution of a comprehensive, integrated communications and marketing strategy that advances Denton ISDs mission, enhances its brand, and strengthens public trust. Ensures strategic, consistent messaging across all platforms that supports district priorities such as student enrollment, staff recruitment, and community engagement. In alignment with One District, One Purpose, the officer champions a culture of shared successamplifying stories that reflect the power of working as one team in service of every child.
Qualifications: Education and Certification
Bachelors degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or related field
Masters degree in relevant field (preferred)equivalent work experience may be considered
Experience
Five (5) years of experience in communications, marketing, journalism, or public relations
Experience developing and leading brand strategy initiatives
Experience in a public education or nonprofit environment (preferred)
Supervisory and team leadership experience (preferred)
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
Develop and lead a comprehensive, district-wide communications and marketing strategy aligned with district goals.
Advise the Superintendent and Cabinet on communications and public relations matters.
Monitor and proactively manage the districts brand identity across all touchpoints.
Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure communication effectiveness and guide continuous improvement.
Media & Public Relations
Serve as the official spokesperson for Denton ISD and manage all media relations.
Draft and distribute news releases, statements, and other public-facing materials.
Build and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.
Respond to media inquiries and coordinate coverage of district programs, initiatives, and events.
Community Engagement & Partnerships
Facilitate proactive communication with parents, community members, business partners, and other stakeholders.
Represent the district in community, civic, and professional organizations.
Coordinate public information campaigns and engagement opportunities, including town halls, forums, and special events.
Digital Communications & Marketing
Oversee the development and maintenance of the district website, social media platforms, and digital newsletters.
Lead the creation of content that reflects the districts culture, achievements, and priorities.
Manage digital storytelling through photos, videos, and strategic messaging campaigns.
Ensure accessibility, accuracy, and timeliness of all public-facing digital content.
Crisis & Emergency Communications
Develop and maintain a district crisis communications plan in coordination with emergency management and leadership staff.
Serve as a key member of the districts emergency response team.
Provide timely, accurate information to stakeholders during emergencies or critical incidents.
Personnel & Budget Management
Recruit, train, and supervise a high-performing communications and marketing team.
Provide coaching, mentorship, and ongoing development opportunities.
Oversee department budget and ensure efficient use of resources.
Additional Responsibilities:
Adhere to all district policies, procedures, and expectations as outlined in the employee handbook and administrative regulations.
Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters with discretion.
Attend school board meetings, community events, and district activities as required.
Ensure compliance with district policies, legal requirements, and ethical standards.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the district and department.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises communications department personnel.
Responsible for communication department staffing decisions, including hiring, evaluation, and performance.
Salary Range: Professional Pay Grade 10
230 days per school year
