Job Summary

SPL is growing and is currently looking for a Laboratory Manager in Plano, TX. This position will oversee the daily operations of the SPL Environmental Laboratory. Will use independence and judgment to recognize and resolve problems within established policies and procedures and is accountable for the quality, timeliness and accuracy of own work and the work submitted by employee's assigned location.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversees the daily operations of an Environmental laboratory;
  • Works with all laboratory departments to ensure work is processed in accordance with client requirements, including staffing, equipment, training, systems access, and appropriate workspace;
  • Oversees worksite safety and adherance to all OSHA requirements and internal policies, including identification of potentially hazardous conditions and addressing them promptly;
  • Works closely with local and corporate Sales staff and Project Management to continually develop new and existing business;
  • Ensures high quality data production for the department in accordance with published methodologies, EPA methods, Standard Methods, and standard operating procedures;
  • Actively participates in the laboratory's Quality System;
  • Directs and coordinates the activities of the Wet Chemistry Department including management of all personnel and capital resources available to successfully meet client and laboratory turnaround times (TAT);
  • Perform technical review of existing and new methodologies and provide appropriate input to the lab management;
  • Reviews in-house quality Assurance SOPs to ensure the analytical departments are operating in a manner which produces legally defensible data for laboratory clientele;
  • Develop, evaluate, and implement laboratory policies, procedures, and standards to meet requirements;
  • Ensure that quality assurance and quality control programs for laboratory analysis and instrumentations are properly developed and maintained;
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on laboratory equipment;
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in an environmental laboratory;
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a Department Manager, Laboratory Supervisor, Laboratory Manager, or Project Manager preferred;
  • Ability to perform duties under pressure arising from large sample volumes, short holding-times and fast turn-around times;
  • Experience and knowledge of principles and processes of the QA Department;
  • General knowledge of chemical, biological, and physical laboratory testing methods and procedures, including qualitative and quantitative analyses.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in chemistry, or a closely related field.

Relocation:

This position is not eligible for relocation.

Travel Requirements:

This position does not require travel.

Work Schedule:

This position will work 8 hours, Monday-Friday in the Plano, TX Office. This position requires capability to work irregularly scheduled hours, overtime, nights and weekends as needed.
